Deadline

Poetry Collections.  From 1 July to 15 August, Tupelo Press will hold open submissions for book-length poetry collections (48-90 pages) and chapbook-length poetry collections (28-47 pages).  Selected manuscripts will receive publication by Tupelo Press, a book launch, and national distribution with energetic publicity and promotion. Details here.

Poetry/short story. The Literary Taxidermy Competition invites writers from around the world to respond to a writing challenge consisting of the first and last lines of a poem/short story. Closing date is 11 July.  Entries cost $10 for a top prize of $500. Details here.

Non-fiction (nature writing). The Willowherb Review, in collaboration with the University of East Anglia, are offering a mentorship and publishing opportunity for three unpublished writers of colour in the field of nature writing. Submissions are open from 15 June - 15 July. Details here.

Poetry/short story/children's fiction. The Emma Press is an independent publisher based in Birmingham. They pay a small advance on the manuscripts they choose to publish, plus royalties, and offer complimentary author copies. There is a submission fee of £0-20 (author chooses what to pay). Their next submission period runs from 18 July - 14 August. Details here.

Poetry/short story. The Hastings Book Festival Short Story & Poetry Competition seeks short stories of up to 2500 words and poems of up to 40 lines. Entries cost £7.50/£13/£20 for one/two/three entries. Top prize is £250.  Closing date is 31 July.  Details here.

Poetry. The Winchester Poetry Prize 2022 seeks poems of up to 40 lines on any subject. Entry fee of £5 for the first poem and £4 for subsequent entries. for a top prize of £1000. Deadline is 31 July . Details here.

Novel-length prose (children's fiction). The 
Searchlight Awards – Best Novel Opening for Children or Young Adults seeks the first 1,200 words of a novel for children. Entry costs £14 for a top prize of £1000. Deadline is 22 August. Details here.

Flash Fiction. The Cranked Anvil Flash Fiction Competition seeks flash fiction of up to 500 words. Entries cost £5/£8/£10 for one/two/three entries, for a top prize of £150. Deadline is 31 August. Details here.

Short story. The Creative Writing Ink Short Story Competition seeks short fiction of up to 3,000 words on any theme. Entries cost £9 for a top prize of £1000 plus a free writing course. Deadline is 30 September. Details here.

Poetry/short story. Reckoning seeks creative writing and art about environmental justice and is currently reading for Reckoning 7, themed around "oceans." Closing date is 30 September.  Submission is free and they pay $0.08/word for prose and $30/page for poetry. Details here.

Poetry. The Anthology Poetry Award 2022 seeks poems of up to 40 lines on the theme of "dream." Early bird entry fee of €10 per poem until 31 July; €15 per poem thereafter. Top prize of €500. Deadline is 31 October. Details here.

Literary non-fiction. Brick publishes "
essays, reviews, interviews, belle lettres, memoir, translations, and all manner of incidental ephemera" and their next submission period runs from 1 September to 31 October. Payment ranges from $55-$660 depending on length - there are no length restrictions for submissions, but accepted pieces tend to be between 1,000-5,000 words. Details here.

Poetry/short story/short non-fiction. The Iowa Review accepts submissions between 1 September and 1 November. Payment is $0.08/word for prose and $1.50/line for poetry. Maximum 25 pages for prose and 8 pages for poetry; prose should be double spaced. $4 submission fee. Details here.

Short fiction/essays. Mangoprism seeks pitches for articles of 1,000-3,000 words on the following topics:

 Avon Press is open to unsolicited submissions year round. No SFF, YA, biography, short fiction, poetry or non-fiction. Details here.

Novels.Harper Collins Ireland has an open submissions policy for work by Irish authors or of likely interest to Irish readers. All genres except poetry. Details here.

Novels. Harper North has an has an open submissions policy for work by authors from the north of England. Fiction and non-fiction considered. Details here.

Novels. HQ Creative Inclusion Lab has an has an open submissions policy for work by debut authors from communities underrepresented in UK publishing. Details here.

Novels. HQ Digial has an has an open submissions policy for novels of 60,000+ words. No non-fiction, children's fiction, SFF. No advance but authors receive royalties on their sales. Details here.

Novels (romance). Mills & Boon have an open submission policy for unagented authors writing romance. Each series has its own guidelines, which must be followed. No simultaneous submissions. Details here.
