Hi, I'm Rachael, and I don't actually have a middle name. I'm a science fiction author and creative writing mentor from Northern Ireland. My debut novel, The Edge of Heaven, is published by NewCon Press and was shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke Award and the ESFS Award for Best Written Work of Fiction. The sequel, On The Brink, was released in May 2022, also from NewCon Press.
I've been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen, published since 2003, and teaching other writers since 2013.
You can find my short stories in publications from around the world, including The Best of British Science Fiction, Aurealis, and Andromeda Spaceways Magazine. I have a PhD in film theory and my doctoral thesis, Mark Antony And Popular Culture, was published by IB Tauris in 2014. (It's not a good idea to get me talking about toga epics unless you happen to have a spare couple of hours.) I live with my husband and children just outside Belfast.
With Robert JE Simpson, I run CinePunked, an organisation that aims to bridge the gap between film academia and film fandom, through podcasts, publications and live events.
